OBJECTIVE:
Washington Mutual hosts an annual conference to thank their top selling
representatives for a job well done. One objective of the conference
is to motivate representatives for the upcoming year.
SITUATION:
The conference was held in Tucson, Arizona. Washington Mutual wanted
their representatives to receive unique gifts that reflected the location
of the conference and had high perceived value in the eyes of the winners.
The gifts were intended to be displayed at winners' homes to provide
an ongoing reminder, both as a memory of the conference and as motivation
to succeed once again!
SOLUTION:
The Promotions Dept.'s recommendations reflected the Arizona conference's
Southwestern theme. The first item chosen was a custom hand painted
ceramic tile featuring a Southwestern scene. An attractive rustic stand
was provided with the tile. The tile could be displayed on the stand
as a pleasant reminder of the conference, providing a unique alternative
to other recognition items, such as plaques, trophies and awards. The
second item was a hardback coffee table book about Arizona. The book
could be used as a
reference
while in Arizona and also would provide long lasting memories as a picture
book. Both items were decoratively packaged in white gift boxes with
tulle, and were placed on the beds of the top sellers when they reached
their rooms. The gifts were well received by Washington Mutual Group
of Funds and their top sellers alike.
